Coastal marine bathing waters with bathymetry documented in the study area. Wave heights are recorded. Tidal currents are present in the zone.

Location

Commune of Erquy, Côtes d'Armor department. The beaches are Caroual Nord and Caroual Centre.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring conducted by the ARS (Regional Health Authority) between 2007 and 2011. Shellfish harvesting quality monitored by IFREMER networks (REMI for microbiological control and REPHY for phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance). Potential macroalgae proliferation assessed.

Risks

Fecal bacterial pollution identified as the primary risk. Pollution patterns correlate with rainfall quantity, distance from precipitation events, sampling dates, and tidal coefficients. Potential pollution sources include collective sewerage systems, non-collective sanitation systems, and stormwater drainage networks discharging directly to sea. Temporary camping areas and barracks structures present near the beach.
