Saint Pabu and Ville Berneuf are two bathing beaches located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. These beaches are grouped together for vulnerability assessment purposes as Type 2 bathing waters. The profile document assesses water quality, identifies pollution sources from watershed basins, and establishes management measures for the beaches.

Water

Coastal marine water bodies subject to tidal currents. Bathymetric data and tidal current maps are documented for the study zone. Wave heights are recorded at the site.

Location

Saint Pabu beach is located in the commune of Erquy. Ville Berneuf beach is located in the commune of Pléneuf-Val-André. Both are situated in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany, France.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored by the ARS (Regional Health Authority) for bathing waters. Bacteriological monitoring data from 2007 to 2011 is available for both beaches. Shellfish bed quality is monitored through REMI (IFREMER) microbiological control network. Phytoplankton and phycotoxin surveillance is conducted via REPHY (IFREMER) network.

Risks

Fecal pollution sources identified including collective wastewater systems, individual non-collective sanitation systems, stormwater networks discharging directly to sea, agricultural activities, and other pollution sources. Bacterial contamination risk varies with rainfall, tidal coefficients, and time of sampling. Macroalgae proliferation potential is assessed.
