Casa con Mansarda is a bathing beach in Senigallia, Marche region, with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone sand sloping at an average gradient of 3%. The beach is protected by emergent artificial reefs and has a length of 700 metres and width of 70 metres. The surrounding area is characterised by urban development with railway infrastructure nearby. The beach receives a maximum of 3,000 bathers daily during peak season.

Water

Coastal bathing area in the Fano-Senigallia water body. Beach area extends 0.9955 square kilometres. Distance between water at medium-low and high tide (safe water limit) is 80 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Senigallia, Ancona province, Marche region. The competent authority office is located at Piazza Roma, 8, 60019 Seligallia, with additional contact at Viale Leopardi, 6.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (2011). Senigallia's sewage network serves all urbanised municipal territory through mixed collectors directing wastewater to an activated sludge treatment plant located near the mouth of the Misa River with capacity of 20,000 cubic metres per day or 100,000 equivalent inhabitants. Approximately 39,300 equivalent inhabitants are served from urban areas; approximately 770 from productive activities. Summer fluctuations add approximately 10,300–20,500 floating equivalent inhabitants. E. coli monitoring (ARPAM) showed results ranging from below detection limit to 300 CFU/100 ml across 2010. Three watercourses (Fosso Marina di Scapezzano, Fosso Cesanella, Fosso SACART) discharge clear water to the sea via concrete conduits; the Fosso SACART includes an overflow structure.

Risks

During intense rainfall, sewage network discharge rates increase substantially with subsequent rise in water levels. Overflow structures (troppo pieni) discharge to alternative recipients separate from the treatment plant during high water events. Phytoplankton proliferation, specifically the non-toxic species Fibrocapsa japonica, occurred during August 2009, causing reddish-brown coloration and oily water consistency.
