Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No sewage treatment plants or coastal discharge facilities are present. Monitoring has been active since 2011. Algal bloom surveillance includes testing for potentially toxic algal strains in both water and macroalgae matrices; no alert threshold exceedances were recorded in the monitoring year.

Risks

River mouth identified as a pollution impact source. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions.
