Costa Chiara is a coarse-grained sandy beach located east of Punta Monesteroli in the municipality of La Spezia, Liguria. The beach is enclosed between rocky cliffs and classified as a coastal water body with mountainous terrain and low stability. The Ligurian Sea in this area is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. No toxic algal proliferation cases have been recorded in the past four years.

Coastal water body. Area: 1.124 square kilometers. Enclosed between rocky cliffs with coarse-grained sandy beach. Associated with the Fosso Mozzano watershed.

Location

Located in La Spezia, Liguria, east of Punta Monesteroli. The nearest authorities are the Municipality of La Spezia (Via Antonio Gramsci 324) and the Port Authority (Largo Michele Fiorillo 2).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or effluent discharge pipes are present in the area. A river mouth (Foce fluviale) is identified as a potential pollution source.

Risks

River mouth as a potential pollution source. Cyanobacterial and toxic algal bloom potential is very low due to oligotrophic conditions in the Ligurian Sea.
