Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). The water body is characterized by oligotrophic conditions. No sources of cyanobacterial blooms or toxic algal proliferation have been recorded. Identified pollution sources include river mouths (foci fluviali) and intermittent watercourses: Fosso di Schiara, Canaletto, and Canalaccio. No coastal wastewater treatment plants, sewage pipes, or treatment units are present in the area.

Risks

The Ligurian Sea does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to its oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years.
