Créac'h an Avel is a bathing beach located in the municipality of Plouguerneau in Brittany, France. The beach profile was revised in July 2017 by LABOCEA, a laboratory specialising in bathing water quality monitoring and analysis. The revision assessed water quality, identified pollution sources, and provided recommendations for management of the bathing site.

Coastal bathing water in Brittany, France. The zone includes tidal characteristics with extreme high and low tides and vive-eau (spring tide) and morte-eau (neap tide) conditions.

Location

Plouguerneau municipality, Brittany, France. The beach has a main access point.

Water Quality

Water quality was monitored by the health authority (ARS) with sampling results analysed according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Shellfish quality in the zone was also assessed. Classification simulations were conducted for the 2013-2016 period with a classification in effect for the 2016 season.

Risks

Potential pollution sources identified include natural water runoff, agricultural activities, non-collective sewerage systems, collective sewerage systems, stormwater networks, and other sources. Bacteriological contamination from faecal sources was studied, and rainfall was identified as a factor influencing pollution levels.
