Spiaggia dell'Orto is a pebbly beach with a gentle slope located in Oggebbio on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region. The beach has a width of 114 metres and is situated in a municipal public area. Water sports are permitted in the area. The beach is classified as Excellent based on routine sampling conducted between 2020 and 2023.

Location

Oggebbio, Verbano Cusio Ossola province, Piedmont region. The beach is located at the foot of 15 settlements on the hills overlooking Lake Maggiore. Altitude: 263 metres above sea level.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 18.5 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 27.5 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 28.2 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 42.5 MPN/100 ml. The wastewater treatment plant is approximately 10 km north of the monitoring point. The bathing water falls within the homogeneous area Maggiore 5 with medium-high pressure classification due to high density of sewage pipes.

Risks

Intense rainfall can trigger overflow devices and accidental failures of lifting installations can introduce untreated effluent to the lake. Scattered houses in the vicinity may not be connected to the sewage network. Boats may release mineral oils and/or fuel. No cyanobacterial bloom activity has been identified. No macroalgae, phytoplankton proliferation, or toxic species blooms have been detected. No anomalous events have been recorded.
