Water Quality

Water quality classification: GOOD. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020-2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile 76.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 153.6 MPN/100 ml. Enterococchi 90th percentile 122.7 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 230.3 MPN/100 ml. The bathing water falls within the homogeneous area Maggiore 5 with medium-high pressure class due to high sewer density. A weir and pumping station are located within 200 metres. Wastewater treatment occurs at a facility approximately 10 km north of the monitoring point.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures. Accidental failures of pumping stations can introduce untreated effluent into the lake. Boats may release mineral oils and/or fuel. Improper management of the sewer network represents a possible pollution source.
