Lido Cannero is a sandy beach with a gentle slope located in Cannero Riviera on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region. The beach spans 335 metres and is situated in a public municipal area. The locality is positioned between the lake and mountains with Mediterranean coastal characteristics, featuring a natural inlet that shelters it from cold winds and provides sunny exposure, resulting in mild winters and temperate summers. Water sports are permitted in the area.

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.335 square kilometres at an altitude of 225 metres above sea level.

Location

Cannero Riviera, Verbano Cusio Ossola Province, Piedmont region. The beach is in a public municipal area. The town centre is located approximately 200 metres south of the Cannero stream on a small alluvial plain.

Facilities

Public showers and toilets are available. Animal access is prohibited.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile 13.8 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 20.9 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile 34.2 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 55.5 MPN/100 ml.

Risks

A scolmatore (overflow structure) is located approximately 200 metres north of the beach. The Cannero stream is present and could influence bathing water quality. Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping systems may discharge untreated effluent into the lake. Vessels could release mineral oils and/or fuel. The area falls within the homogeneous zone Maggiore 4, classified as high-pressure due to high density of sewage conduits.
