Dümmer See is the second-largest inland lake in Lower Saxony with a water surface area of approximately 12 square kilometers. It formed during the Weichsel ice age in a glacial depression at the edge of an end moraine (Dammer Mountains) and lies embedded within the Dümmer Nature Park between the Dammer Mountains and Stemweder Mountain. With an average depth of only 1.10 meters and a maximum depth of about 1.40 meters, it is popular as a recreation area and attracts water sports enthusiasts, particularly windsurfers, while remaining family-friendly. The bathing areas are located on the eastern shore in the towns of Lembruch and Hüde.
