Duquesa is a cozy beach located in the center of Cascais. At low tide it connects with Conceição beach. The beach is very frequently visited due to its privileged location and excellent access from various types of transport.

Season

May 1st to October 15th (2024 bathing season).

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2023 established under Decreto-Lei 135/09 (June 3rd) as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012 (May 23rd). Weekly sampling frequency. Bathing was advised against or prohibited on 3 days during the 2023 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Short-term pollution events (1-2 days duration) may occur due to river discharge increase after rainfall events or sewerage network failure. One stormwater discharge point identified discharging to the beach. An emergency lift station (Duquesa) located near the bathing water discharges directly to the sea in case of emergency. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation potential are unlikely.
