Edertalsperre is a reservoir created by damming the Eder River in Waldeck-Frankenberg district. The dam was completed in 1914 with a crest length of 400 m, a height of 47 m, and impounds a lake 27 km long with 69 km of shoreline. The reservoir enables navigation on the Weser River during low water levels, reduces flood risk in the Eder valley, and generates electricity. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, being lowest in winter and highest in spring.
