Stockelache is a natural bathing lake covering 8.5 hectares located between Altenburg and Kuhberg in the Schwalmpforte area. The lake was formed from brown coal mining operations that continued until the late 1980s. The water is clear and blue-green in colour, with low nutrient loading and minimal algae development. The lake is surrounded by woodland and floodplain landscape characteristic of the Schwalm region.
