Esrum Sø is a freshwater bathing area located in Jonstrup with a small sandy beach surrounded by large stones. The water body measures approximately 400 metres in length and 1 metre in width. Water quality is rated as Excellent based on measurements from the four most recent seasons. The bathing area is monitored at Station 520 with 10 samples collected in 2024.

Freshwater lake with limited wave action and shallow water. The lake has a sand bottom. Salinity is less than 0.05%. There is no current and poor water circulation in calm weather.

Risks

High risk of cyanobacterial blooms occurring frequently after several days of calm, warm weather. Risk of phytoplankton blooms. Risk of swimmer's itch infection caused by parasitic flatworm larvae from snails and waterfowl, which can penetrate skin causing local irritation and inflammation lasting from days to several weeks.
