Fontaine Saint-Gaud beach is located on the west coast of Manche department in Saint-Pair-sur-Mer commune, situated in the Granville-Jullouville bay north of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. The beach is 300 metres long with a width of 400 metres at high tide, featuring fine sand with a rocky platform at its southern end. It has a gentle slope and is used for swimming, water sports such as surfing and sailing, and fishing.

Marine water body in the English Channel. Beach depth is less than 30 metres. The seabed is characterized by fine sand with a rocky platform in the southern section.

Location

Saint-Pair-sur-Mer commune, positioned between Granville to the north, Saint-Planchers to the east, and Jullouville to the south. Parking is available without marked spaces along Rue de la Fontaine Saint-Gaud. Access to the beach is provided by a single access point from the private residential area.

Facilities

The beach has no sanitary facilities, no lifeguard post, and is not under lifeguard surveillance. The beach is maintained through regular cleaning by the commune. There is parking along Rue de la Fontaine Saint-Gaud.

Season

Official bathing season runs from 15 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring includes testing for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. The beach was classified as having insufficient quality at the end of the 2013 season. The vulnerability profile identifies domestic wastewater, agricultural activities in the Saigue and Thar watersheds, rainwater runoff, and coastal discharges as potential pollution sources.

Risks

Identified sources of pollution include coastal discharges from the Thar and Saigue watersheds, domestic wastewater from collective and non-collective sewerage systems, agricultural pollution from the surrounding catchment areas, rainwater runoff, and activities related to summer tourism infrastructure.
