Germany Lake 1 - Excellent

Feldmarksee is an artificial lake located in the Warendorf district of Germany. The bathing water has been officially designated since 1989 and covers an area of 13 hectares. The lake has a sandy substrate and modified shoreline structure. Water quality has been rated as excellent for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023.

Water

Artificial lake covering 13 hectares. Mean water depth is not specified; maximum depth is 6 metres. Water temperature averages 19°C. pH value is 8.2. Electrical conductivity is 156 µS/cm. Water transparency is 1.7 metres. The catchment area is very small, less than 10 square kilometres. The lakebed is sandy. Water renewal occurs through groundwater throughflow.

Location

The bathing area is located in Sassenberg, managed by the city. The sampling point is situated at UTM coordinates E: 435460, N: 5761732. The shoreline extends for 250 metres.

Water Quality

Water quality has been rated as excellent for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. No relevant pollution sources have been identified in the catchment area. No contamination in sediments has been detected, either microbiologically or chemically.

Risks

The risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is low. No cyanobacterial blooms have been observed in the past four years. The risk of phytoplankton mass development is low. Bird populations affecting the water body occur rarely.
