Femmina Morta is a sandy beach in Santa Croce Camerina, Sicily, with a shallow, sandy seabed that slopes gently. The beach is enclosed between two promontories and has a dry subtropical climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter rainfall. The beach is 15 metres wide and is located in a scarcely urbanized area with intensive greenhouse agriculture. The water quality is classified as Excellent.

Location

Water quality classification: Excellent. The area is not served by sewage systems. Agricultural activities and untreated urban discharges are identified as potential pollution sources. Stormwater discharge and overflow events occur during heavy rainfall, which may direct discharge into the bathing water during significant meteorological events.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can cause overflow of stormwater discharge into the bathing water. No cyanobacterial bloom potential or macroalgal/phytoplankton proliferation has been reported in the last four years.
