Foce Agri is a sandy beach bathing area located 250 metres south of the mouth of the Agri River in the municipality of Policoro, Basilicata. The area is frequented by swimmers and is characterized by sandy beach habitat. The surrounding area has no urban settlements or tourism-related structures.

River mouth area. The bathing zone is defined by a 100-metre wide corridor centred on the Agri River discharge outlet.

Location

Policoro, Matera province, Basilicata region. The sampling point is 250 metres south of the Agri River mouth at coordinates 40.218014, -16.739375. The bathing area extends from coordinates 40.221319, -16.740235 to 40.217430, -16.739200.

Season

1 May to 30 September. Monitoring period: 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Classification period: 2017–2020. Monitoring conducted from 1 April to 30 September with monthly sampling frequency. No bathing prohibitions were in place during the 2020 swimming season.

Risks

Two non-bathing zones are designated: the Agri River mouth discharge (100-metre wide corridor) and the Bonifica Consortium Canal and Scanzano Pump discharge (40-metre wide corridor). These areas are closed to swimming.
