Idrovora Metaponto is a bathing area in Bernalda, Basilicata, located along the coast between the Basento River and the Puglia region border. The beach comprises three nuclei: Basento, Centro, and Bradano, situated on pine forest terrain within state-owned forestry areas. The area received the Blue Flag international award in 2018.

Coastal marine bathing area extending from the Basento River to the Puglia regional border.

Location

Bernalda, province of Matera, Basilicata. The sampling point is located south of the Metaponto pump station (40.359963 -16.838360). Bathing area boundaries: 40.359346 -16.837387 to 40.360825 -16.838768.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 April–30 September. Bathing season: 1 May–30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on 2017–2020 monitoring. No bathing bans were in effect for the 2020 bathing season.

Risks

Non-swimming zone established around the Consortium Bonifica Canal discharge and Metaponto pump station extending 40 metres from the outlet axis on the southern margin.
