Foce Rio Conghe Caudi is a coastal bathing water located in Alassio, Liguria, along an extended sandy beach. The area is characterized by a fluvial plain extending west of Alassio town. The water body is classified as coastal with mountainous terrain and low stability. The bathing area covers 0.557 km and achieved an Excellent rating for the 2019-2022 four-year assessment period.

Water

Coastal water body (Laigueglia-Albenga water body). The area extends 0.557 km. The bathing zone is characterized by a sandy beach along an extended coastal strip. The Rio Conghe Caudi river mouth is located at the eastern edge of the bathing water.

Location

Alassio, Savona Province, Liguria region. The historic center of Alassio is located upstream, with the seafront promenade, state road SS1, and Ravizza sports complex nearby. The bathing water is located in the eastern section of the beach area.

Facilities

Private bathing establishments with associated services. Accommodation structures and food and beverage facilities are available. A lifeguard service number (112) is available for emergencies.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2019-2022 four-year assessment). A sewage outfall from Alassio's treatment facility discharges into the sea approximately 300 meters from the sampling station and northeast of the bathing water. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal blooms have been observed in Liguria over the past decade. The reference monitoring station at Pietra Ligure (MCAD) recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2019-2023, but values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre were recorded in July 2021, August 2022, and July 2023.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events can occur during heavy precipitation, when increased stream discharge may transport sewage downstream. The Rio Conghe Caudi river mouth is located in the eastern area of the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata can produce temporary and reversible respiratory effects and fever in sensitive individuals through aerosol inhalation.
