Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants or Imhoff tanks are present. The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions and is not affected by cyanobacterial blooms. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded.

Risks

River mouth (foce fluviale) identified as a source of pollution. Short-duration pollution events are possible; assessment methodology for these is under development.
