Levante Pennello Acquario is a sandy beach in the urban centre of Diano Marina, Liguria, situated at the edge of a small harbour. The bathing water is classified as coastal waters with low stability. The area is characterised by Mediterranean oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms.

Location

Diano Marina, Imperia Province, Liguria Region. Located in the urban centre adjacent to a small port. The municipality office is at Piazza Martiri della Libertà 3, Diano Marina.

Facilities

Private bathing establishments with services and other reception facilities are present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, depuration facilities, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea is oligotrophic, preventing cyanobacterial proliferation. No toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years.

Risks

The port is identified as a source of potential pollution impacts. Short-duration pollution events are assessed using a modelling approach in development. No cases of toxic algal proliferation have occurred.
