A sandy beach in Fano, Pesaro Urbino province in the Marche region. The beach features fine quartz and feldspar sand of calcareous origin with a slope of 1–3%. It is protected by emerged and artificial reefs. The beach is 28 metres wide on average and extends over 1.99 hectares. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with railway passage.

Pesaro_Fano water body. Distance between water at medium-low and high tide (safe water limit): 80 metres. Astronomical tidal range: 30–50 centimetres.

Fano, Pesaro Urbino province, Marche region. Located at Hotel km 246.4 on SS.16. Accessible by bicycle path. Parking available for people with disabilities.

Water Quality

Classification E. The Ponte Metauro treatment plant serving this area has been subject to 24 annual controls of parameters under EU Directive 152/2006 Table 1 and 6 annual controls of Table 3 parameters over the last 4 years, all in compliance with legal limits.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred during bathing seasons 2008 and 2009, causing anomalous discoloration of marine waters. During intense rainfall, combined sewer overflows from 17 discharge points (7 from Ponte Metauro treatment plant, 10 from Ponte Sasso treatment plant) may discharge directly to the coast.
