Foz is an urban beach with a wide sand strip and rocky outcrops bordered by an urban waterfront. It encompasses five beach concessions: Luz, Ingleses, Ourigo, Carneiros, and Pastoras. The beach is located in Porto and is monitored for bathing water quality.

June 14 to September 14, 2025.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 2 weeks. No days of bathing prohibition or warning were recorded due to short-term pollution during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from rainwater drainage networks, sewerage networks, Leixões Seaport, and potentially the Douro river. Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive tributary flow during rainfall events, untreated sewage discharge from treatment plant malfunction, rainwater network contamination, or vessel contamination. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical bloom occurrence. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical occurrence.
