Furadouro Sul is a natural beach with fine sand located 400 metres south of the urban area of Furadouro on the exposed mesotidal Atlantic Coast. The beach features wooden pedestrian accesses and a raised walkway. It experiences high visitor numbers during July and August, and is influenced by a Mediterranean climate with frequent coastal fog during summer months.

Location

Municipality of Ovar. Located 400 metres from the urban area south of Furadouro. Wooden pedestrian accesses and raised walkway provide access.

Season

7 June to 7 September 2025. Sampling frequency: once every two weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was not yet assigned as of the 2025 bathing season. Classification is in progress according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 and Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012. No short-term pollution events (lasting less than 72 hours) occurred during the 2024 bathing season. Zero days of bathing being advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution in 2024.

Risks

Diffuse sources of fecal contamination from surrounding urban activities. Solid waste from beach activities and marine litter. Bird colonies present. High number of users. Cyanobacteria proliferation is unlikely. Macroalgae proliferation is unlikely. Phytoplankton proliferation is likely.
