Furadouro is a bathing water located on the mesotidal exposed Atlantic Coast, part of water body CWB-II-1A. The beach is classified as type I, characterized by a consolidated urban core with strong user demand. Infrastructure, equipment, and various services are available at the site. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate with frequent fog formation in the coastal strip during summer months.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2024 complies with Decreto-Lei 135/09 of June 3rd, amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012 of May 23rd. No short-term pollution episodes (duration ≤72 hours) occurred during the 2024 bathing season. No days of bathing prohibition or advice against bathing due to short-term pollution in 2024.

Risks

Potential microbiological pollution sources include diffuse fecal contamination from urban activities, solid waste from beach activities, marine litter, bird colonies, and high user numbers. Phytoplankton has a likely potential for proliferation; cyanobacteria and macroalgae have unlikely potential for proliferation. An alert system is activated when the Barrinha de Esmoriz, located north of Furadouro, opens to the sea.
