L'Ermitage is a bathing beach located in the commune of Saint-Brévin-les-Pins. The beach is open and exposed, allowing pollution to disperse toward the open sea relatively quickly. Urbanized surfaces represent 50% of the immediate surrounding area, but the sandy shore favors infiltration and slows bacterial survival. The beach has been classified as excellent quality according to the 2006/7/CE Directive criteria.

Water

Coastal bathing water on the Atlantic coast. The beach is open to the sea with low wave exposure. Tidal currents influence water movement and potential pollution transport.

Location

Saint-Brévin-les-Pins commune. The immediate monitoring perimeter extends 1 kilometer on either side of the bathing zone.

Water Quality

According to 2006/7/CE Directive criteria, water quality is classified as excellent. Under the earlier 76/160/CEE Directive, quality was good in 2005, 2006, and 2008–2010, and average in 2007. Microbiological monitoring data from 2006 to 2010 did not exceed thresholds established by AFSSET. No correlation between rainfall events and water quality deterioration was identified. No cyanobacteria blooms have been reported.

Risks

High concentration of birds on the beach identified as a pollution source. Jellyfish arrive regularly. Heavy rainfall events exceeding 15mm are rare during summer season (12 events over 5 seasons), but pollution risk from rain exists. Southwest wind can direct pollution toward the coast. Phytoplankton blooms and green algae phenomena have not been identified on the coast.
