Plougrescant is located at the eastern extremity of the Pink Granite Coast, 6 km north of Tréguier and approximately 20 km northeast of Lannion. The northern part of the municipality is bordered by the English Channel, while the eastern part overlooks the Jaudy estuary. The municipality has four monitored bathing areas: Beg Vilin at the campsite, Pors Hir on the east coast, Pors Scaff, and Gouermel cove on the west coast. Water quality is classified as good or excellent according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE based on sanitary checks from the last four seasons. No exceedances of European standards have been recorded since monitoring began.

Water

The English Channel (La Manche) borders the municipality. Gouermel beach is 400 metres long and 40 metres wide, with a slope of 11% over the first 20 metres and 6% over the last 20 metres. The foreshore transitions from sand in the upper section to small pebbles in the lower section. Small coastal streams with temporary flow are present, including the Roudour with a watershed of 240 hectares and a linear extent of approximately 2 km. Oyster farming and fish farming activities are located primarily in the Jaudy estuary, which has good water quality.

Location

Plougrescant is situated at the eastern end of the Pink Granite Coast, 6 km north of Tréguier and approximately 20 km northeast of Lannion. The bathing areas are located along the English Channel coast and the Jaudy estuary. Four monitored beaches are present: Gouermel and Pors Scaff on the west coast, and Beg Vilin and Pors Hir on the east coast.

Facilities

Seasonal toilets are installed annually near bathing zones at Pors Scaff, Pors Hir, and Gouermel. Effluents from beach cabins are processed at a treatment centre. Public toilets at Pors Hir are undergoing renovation with conservation of existing sanitation infrastructure.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: good or excellent according to EU Directive 2006/7/CE. The municipality has a Type 1 bathing profile, indicating that the risk of water pollution is not established. No exceedances of European standards have been recorded since monitoring implementation. Oyster quality is monitored by IFREMER.

Risks

Green algae proliferation is identified as a potential pollution source. Management measures are outlined for green algae risks. Agricultural and wastewater treatment station malfunctions are identified as potential pollution sources.
