Plougrescant is a commune located at the eastern end of the Pink Granite Coast, 6 km north of Tréguier and approximately 20 km northeast of Lannion in Brittany, France. The commune has four monitored bathing areas: Beg Vilin at the camping site, Pors Hir on the eastern coast, Pors Scaff, and Gouermel cove on the western coast. The bathing water has been classified as Type 1 profile, with water quality rated as good or excellent according to European Directive 2006/7/CE based on health inspections over four consecutive seasons. No exceedances of European standards have been recorded since monitoring began.

Water

The Manche (English Channel) borders the northern part of the commune. Gouermel: 400 metres long, 40 metres wide, with 11% slope over first 20 metres and 6% slope over last 20 metres. Beach composition: upper section sandy, lower section small pebbles. Jaudy estuary (Tréguier River) borders the eastern part. Oyster and fish farming activities present in the estuary.

Location

Plougrescant commune, 6 km north of Tréguier, 20 km northeast of Lannion. Four bathing areas: Gouermel (western coast), Pors Hir (eastern coast), Pors Scaff (western coast), and Beg Vilin (at camping site). Bituminous road access available at Gouermel.

Facilities

Temporary toilets installed annually at Pors Scaff, Pors Hir, and Gouermel. Effluents from sanitary facilities transported to treatment centre. Public toilets at Pors Hir undergoing renovation with retention of existing sanitation.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good or excellent under European Directive 2006/7/CE. No exceedances of European standards recorded since monitoring implementation. Shellfish quality monitored by IFREMER. Oyster farming present between Baie de l'Enfer and Ile d'Er, and at Pors Scaff.

Risks

Green algae proliferation identified as a potential pollution source. Municipal order prohibits presence of animals at Gouermel from 09:00 to 20:00 in July and August.
