Großenbaumer See is an artificial lake bathing area located in Duisburg, Germany. The lake covers 9 hectares with a sandy bottom and natural shoreline structure. The lake has been classified as an EU bathing water since 1992 and has received an excellent quality rating for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023.

Water

Artificial lake with an area of 9 hectares. Average water depth is 5.1 metres with a maximum depth of 12 metres. The lake is stratified with a sandy substrate. Water exchange time exceeds 30 days via groundwater circulation. Water transparency ranges from 1 to 2.5 metres with an average of 1.75 metres. pH values range from 8.04 to 9.89 with an average of 8.43. Conductivity ranges from 541 to 565 µS/cm with an average of 551 µS/cm. The lake is classified as mesotrophic (nutrient level 2).

Location

Duisburg, Germany. The bathing facility is operated by Trägerverein e.V., Freizeitanlage Großenbaum, located at Buscher Str. 65, 47269 Duisburg. The beach section is approximately 100 metres long.

Water Quality

The bathing water has been rated as excellent for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. No relevant pollution sources have been identified. The lake receives water primarily from groundwater circulation. Sediments show no microbiological or chemical contamination.
