Großer Wukensee is a natural lake located approximately 20 km northeast of Berlin near Biesenthal on the edge of the Barnim ground moraine plateau. Created during the last ice age, the lake has a surface area of 25.93 hectares and a maximum depth of 16 metres. It is fed by groundwater with no surface inflows or outflows, and exhibits stable temperature stratification in summer. The lake has recovered from historical eutrophication and now shows water transparency levels between 2 and 5 metres. The Strandbad Biesenthal beach facility, established in 1925 and reconstructed in 1999, is located at the eastern shore and offers comprehensive leisure facilities.
