Ruhlesee is a 17-hectare gravel pit lake located approximately 30 km north of Berlin in the Barnim Nature Park. It was excavated about 10 years ago and is one of five similar lakes in the area. A dam divides the lake into two approximately equal halves. The lake is fed primarily by groundwater with no surface inflows, resulting in clear, nutrient-poor water. Maximum depth is approximately 6 metres with no stable summer temperature stratification.
