Obersee near Lanke is a natural glacial lake located approximately 20 km northeast of Berlin in the Wandlitz-Prendener Lake District within Barnim Nature Park. Formed at the end of the last ice age, the lake has a surface area of 12 hectares and a maximum depth of 9 metres. The lake features forested shores that drop steeply, limiting reed development. Summer water transparency ranges between 2 and 4 metres at the bathing site, with underwater vegetation present to approximately 6 metres depth. The lake is managed by a professional fisherman and is classified as a tench, bass, and pike lake.

Natural lake. Surface area: 11.8 hectares. Maximum depth: 9 metres. Water temperature range: 10–25.1 °C (mean 20.5 °C). pH range: 8.1–8.4 (mean 8.2). Transparency range: 2–4 metres (mean 3 metres). Freshwater body (salinity < 0.5‰). Stratified in summer. Sandy geology and sandy shoreline.

Location

Near Lanke, approximately 20 km northeast of Berlin in the Wandlitz-Prendener Lake District, Barnim Nature Park. The bathing area is located at the northern shore adjacent to a walking trail, with a nearby hotel offering boat rentals.

Facilities

Bathing area designated as Badewiese. Walking trail at northern shore. Hotel with boat rental facility. Motorboats not permitted.

Season

Monitoring conducted every four weeks year-round by the district health authority (Gesundheitsamt des Kreises Barnim).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (ausgezeichnet) for all monitoring periods 2016–2024. E. coli 95-percentile: 83–163 per 100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 95-percentile: 23–32 per 100 ml. No exceedances of microbiological parameter thresholds recorded. No cyanobacterial blooms observed in the last 4 years. No algal blooms anticipated. Macroalgae and aquatic plants present; no future mass development expected.
