Sæby Nordstrand is a sandy beach with a sand bottom located along Denmark's northern coast. The bathing water profile spans approximately 6.5 kilometres with beach widths varying from 20 to 30 metres. The water is salt with varying currents predominantly flowing northward. Water clarity is good with visibility exceeding 1 metre. Few or no algae are present, and blue-green algae are absent.

Water

Sandy beach with sandy bottom. Water depth is approximately 0.5 metres at 10 metres from shore, 1 metre at 30 metres from shore, and 1.5 metres at 50 metres from shore. Salt water. Currents vary in direction but predominantly flow northward.

Location

Sæby Nordstrand is located in Frederikshavn Municipality, northern Denmark. The nearest town is Sæby. Frederikshavn Kommune is the responsible authority, located at Rådhus Alle 100, 9900 Frederikshavn.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor based on samples collected over the last four seasons. Bathing water is monitored for the faecal bacteria E. coli and Enterococci throughout the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). Both bacteria are found in the intestines of humans and warm-blooded animals.

Risks

A storm overflow near Vangen may discharge sewage immediately north of the area if the wastewater pump fails. An overflow structure on Frederikshavnsvej can discharge sewage to Sulbækken during heavy rainfall. Relief from two overflow structures in Sæby town and one in Hørbylund discharges to Sæby Å. Bathing is not recommended during and immediately after heavy rainfall. Bathing in and around stream outlets is not recommended.
