Sæby Nordstrand

Sæby Nordstrand is a sandy beach with a sand bottom located along a 6.5 km stretch of coastline. The beach width varies from approximately 20 to 30 meters. Water depth is shallow, measuring about 0.5 meters at 10 meters from shore, 1 meter at 30 meters out, and 1.5 meters at 50 meters out. The water is clear with visibility exceeding 1 meter and contains few or no algae, with no blue-green algae present.

Sandy beach with sand bottom. Salt water. Water depth approximately 0.5 meters at 10 meters from shore, 1 meter at 30 meters out, and 1.5 meters at 50 meters out. Water current shifts in direction but predominantly moves toward the north.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on samples collected over the last four seasons during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). The water is monitored for faecal bacteria E. coli and Enterococci. Water quality classification categories are: Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, or Poor.

Risks

A discharge outlet is located immediately north of Vangen where an emergency overflow (activated if the sewage pump fails) releases wastewater. An overflow structure at Frederikshavsnej can discharge wastewater to Sulbækken during heavy rainfall. Sæby Å has relief from two overflow structures in Sæby town and one in Hørbylund. Swimming is discouraged during and immediately after heavy rain and in the vicinity of stream outlets.
