Halfdansgade Badezone

Halfdansgade Badezone is an unattended bathing zone located on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. The zone covers 888 square meters and is marked by yellow buoys spaced at maximum 25-meter intervals connected by floating pipes. Access is via a wooden bridge, and bathing takes place from a floating pontoon within the zone. The area is open for swimming year-round.

Water

Salt water in Copenhagen Harbour. The bathing zone measures 74 by 12 meters with a water depth of 7 to 9 meters. Water currents are weak to strong, predominantly from north and south directions.

Location

Islands Brygge at Halfdansgade, Copenhagen. Disabled parking available at Gunløgsgade/Snorregade. Accessible toilets within 100 meters of the bathing zone. Access surfaces include pavement, compacted gravel, and cobblestones.

Facilities

Rescue posts and rescue ladders available. Warning lamp on site signals poor water quality. Disabled parking and accessible toilets within 100 meters. No lifeguards present; bathing is at own risk.

Season

Open for bathing year-round. Bathing season 2023 included 205 hours of closure (red flag), equivalent to 6.9 percent of the time.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Monitoring conducted minimum 20 times per year. The nearest overflow structure is located approximately 50 meters away and discharges on average once annually. During intense rainfall, overflow structures may introduce bacteria into the bathing water. No other known pollution sources in the bathing area.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae, phytoplankton growth, and macroalgae assessed as low. Potential bacterial contamination from sewer overflow during heavy rainfall. Occasional occurrences of glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills.
