Hennetalsperre/Badebucht Mielinghausen is a bathing site located on the southeastern shore of Hennesee reservoir, situated below the Mielinghausen holiday home complex. The site occupies 80 metres of shoreline on this artificial reservoir. Water quality has been rated excellent for four consecutive years (2020–2023). The bathing area is accessible via a lakeside path and is characterised by moderate water exchange and low risk of algal blooms.

Water

Hennetalsperre is an artificial reservoir (Talsperre) with an area of 213 hectares. The water body has a mean depth of 18 metres and maximum depth of 42 metres. Water temperature ranges from 14.3 to 19.8 degrees Celsius with a mean of 18.5 degrees Celsius. pH values range from 8.24 to 9.25 with a mean of 8.86. Conductivity ranges from 197 to 251 µS/cm with a mean of 223 µS/cm. Water transparency ranges from 1.3 to over 2 metres with a mean of 1.8 metres. The water body is mesotrophic with a water exchange time of 30 days or less. The catchment area ranges from 10 to 100 square kilometres. The underlying geology is calcareous with a silty substrate. The water body is stratified with natural lakeside structure.

Location

The bathing site is located on the southeastern shore of Hennesee reservoir near Mielinghausen. It is accessible via the lakeside path (Uferrandweg). Parking is available at the access road to Camp Hennesee.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). The bathing water has been classified as an EU bathing water since 2008. No cyanobacterial water blooms were observed during the past four years. The risk of future cyanobacterial mass development is low. No macroalgae are present. The risk of future phytoplankton mass development is low.

Risks

A municipal rain overflow basin discharges into the lake in front of the bathing site and overflows only during heavy rainfall events, so impairment is not expected. A passenger ship (MS Hennesee) operates an mooring point directly adjacent to the bathing site. Cyanobacterial algal blooms are infrequent at this location.
