Water

Artificial reservoir (Talsperre) with a surface area of 1,037 hectares. Catchment area between 100 and 1,000 km². Mean depth 12.54 meters, maximum depth 33.7 meters. Water level fluctuations of 3 meters. Water transparency ranges from 1.4 to 3.6 meters with a mean of 2.5 meters. Mesotrophic nutrient status. Sandy substrate with modified shoreline structure. Water renewal through inflow with exchange time of 30 days or less.

Location

Located in Soest district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The bathing beach at Wamel (Engel & Neu GbR Strandbad Wamel) is operated from Bahnhofstraße 28, 59519 Möhnesee. The beach section extends 500 meters.

Water Quality

Rated as excellent for all years from 2015 to 2018. No relevant pollution sources currently identified. Historical PFT contamination was recorded in the Möhne River in 2006 but poses no current relevant impact. Cyanobacteria risk is low, with no observed water blooms in the past four years.
