Coastal water body in the Diano Marina–Andora area, classified as mountainous terrain with low stability (CWA3). The bathing area covers 0.450 km. The Rio di Rodino is the relevant river basin.

Location

San Bartolomeo al Mare, province of Imperia, Liguria. The beach is accessible via the lungomare (promenade) delle Nazioni and the SS1 road. The Comune di San Bartolomeo al Mare is located at Via XX Settembre 1, 18016 San Bartolomeo al Mare.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2021–2024: Excellent. No wastewater treatment plants or discharge pipes are located within the bathing water. A coastal treatment plant at San Bartolomeo discharges approximately 1.2–1.3 km to the east of the sampling station.

Risks

During heavy rainfall, increased river flow from the Rio di Rodino may transport effluent downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have occurred in Liguria over the past decade; however, the reference station (MARC) at Diano Marina recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit or values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre from 2020 to 2024. Ostreopsis ovata inhalation may cause temporary and reversible respiratory problems and fever in sensitive individuals.
