Inizio Lungomare Sud is a coastal bathing water in Montegiordano, Calabria. The beach features a rocky shoreline with an articulated coast configuration. The seafloor has a gentle slope of approximately 1% from the waterline to the 5-metre isobath. Sediment grain size ranges from less than 0.062 mm to greater than 2 mm.

Coastal water body. Beach width and bather numbers information is not available. The monitoring area extends 1.181 square kilometres.

Location

Located in Montegiordano, in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. The bathing area is situated in front of the town centre.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent. The bathing water is affected by two pollution sources: Torrente Garibaldi estuary and Canale Cardona estuary. Treatment of wastewater is managed by a biological treatment plant at Montegiordano Marina. Short-term pollution events have occurred due to accidental wastewater treatment plant malfunctions and overflow from the Montegiordano Marina treatment facility.

Risks

No cyanobacterial or algal blooms have been recorded in the past four years. No anomalous situations have been verified.
