Kalksee is a lake situated between Neuruppin and Rheinsberg, embedded in the terminal moraine belt of the Ruppiner Schweiz. The lake has steep sides and a deep basin carved by ancient glacial activity. It receives no surface inflows but is fed by underwater springs and drains via the Binenbach stream. The lake is relatively nutrient-poor despite some eutrophication, with summer water clarity ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 metres. It is part of the Naturpark Stechlin-Ruppiner Land, with the western shore designated as a nature reserve. The lake has achieved excellent bathing water quality ratings consistently from 2016 to 2024.
