Kalymnos is a small sandy natural bay located in a steep and isolated area with difficult access in the Limassol district of Cyprus. The beach is bordered by the Florakis military naval base to the northeast and features vegetation including shrubs, fruit trees, palms, and eucalyptus. A dining facility operates in the coastal zone. The maximum daily number of swimmers is 200 people.

Water

The bathing water is located in the Moni water body (code CY_16-C2). The beach is 130 metres long with an average water depth of 3 metres and maximum depth of 7.6 metres. The seabed is primarily covered with sandy material of uniform grain composition. The water body belongs to hydrological basin 8 with an average elevation of 259.1 metres in the catchment area.

Location

Located in the Pentakomo community in Limassol district, Cyprus. The beach has difficult access and is situated at coordinates 33.2734°E, 34.7160°N. Public parking and facilities are not available, though toilet facilities are provided by the adjacent restaurant and dining area.

Facilities

Lifeguard services with rescue equipment are available from 10:00 to 17:00 during the swimming season. Toilet facilities are provided by the adjacent restaurant and dining establishment. The beach has been designated as a Blue Flag beach. No public sports facilities, boat mooring, or recreational activities infrastructure is available. Waste bins are placed along the beach access path.

Season

Lifeguard services operate during an official swimming season from 10:00 to 17:00. Southwesterly winds typically prevail during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body to which this bathing area belongs is in good ecological condition. Monitoring has been conducted for many years, with formal reports prepared since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth exists due to identified pollution sources. Possible pollution sources include passing ships and fish farms located at least 1.6 kilometres away. Significant port facilities and industrial plants (Vasiliko power station and cement factory) are located to the northeast. Short-term pollution risk is low, with only two recorded incidents between 2008 and 2010 (one attributed to storm conditions). Short-term pollution events occur approximately once per swimming season and typically last 1–2 days.
