Pomo Canal is a shingle beach located north of Pomo fishing harbour in Cyprus. The beach has a relatively steep structure and sits at the foot of an elevated area. The shoreline is modified, with an artificial breakwater forming the southern section. The seabed consists of pebbles and rocks with a rocky substrate and no vegetation. The beach is 56 metres long with an average water depth of 1 metre and maximum depth of 3 metres.

Location

Located in the Pomo community, Paphos district, Cyprus. Access is via the road to Pomo fishing harbour. The monitoring point is at coordinates 32.5558°E, 35.1756°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Waste collection bins are present along the entire beach, maintained by Pomo Community Council. During summer, sunbeds and umbrellas are available in the central section. No public service infrastructure such as bathrooms or showers is present. No lifeguards, showers, or disabled access facilities are mentioned.

Season

Monitoring data covers the 2008-2010 swimming periods. Southern winds prevail during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. The coastal body of water is in good ecological status. No incidents of short-term pollution have been recorded. Water quality has been monitored for many years, with monitoring reports prepared according to Directive 76/160/EEC since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Potential sources of marine pollution include Pomo fishing harbour and passing vessels, though the coastal morphology limits significant impact. Risk of short-term pollution is negligible.
