Omega is a sandy beach located in a natural bay in the remote eastern Tellyria area of Cyprus. The beach is 740 metres long with an average water depth of 1 metre and maximum depth of 2 metres. The shoreline features natural sand without vegetation, and the surrounding area contains shrub vegetation, palm trees, and conifers. Access is via an unpaved road. The beach is in an isolated location with minimal nearby development, including a few houses, hotel facilities, and a public school at the eastern boundary.

Water

Sandy beach in a natural bay on the eastern Tellyria coastal body. Average water depth is 1 metre. Maximum water depth is 2 metres. Beach length is 740 metres. The drainage basin covers 0.9 km² with average elevation of 416.3 metres and average annual surface rainfall of 542.1 mm.

Location

Located in Nicosia Province, in the Pigeneia Community. The beach is in a remote area with access via unpaved road. Coordinates: 32.6653°E, 35.1923°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Lifeguard services and lifesaving equipment are provided. No public facilities for visitor services. No waste collection bins on the beach; waste collection is the responsibility of the Pigeneia Community Council. Maximum daily bathers: 600.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on long-term monitoring data. The coastal body to which this bathing water belongs is in good ecological status. An isolated pollution incident occurred on 8 November 2005 caused by rainfall preceding sampling. The risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton is low.

Risks

Short-term pollution risk is low. One short-term pollution incident was recorded from 2008 to 2010 (17 August 2010) attributed to a passing vessel. Possible sources of short-term pollution include passing vessels and malfunction of wastewater treatment facilities in coastal developments. Two small streams discharge into the bathing water area.
