Kryoneri is an extensive pebble beach located approximately 2 kilometres west of Pyrga harbour in a flat coastal area. The beach is 560 metres long with an average water depth of 0.8 metres and a maximum depth of 2 metres. The beach centre has catering and recreation facilities, with scattered housing in the wider area. Shrub vegetation, reeds, and palm trees are present on the beach.

Water

Coastal marine water body named East Tilluria. Beach length is 560 metres. Average water depth is 0.8 metres. Maximum water depth is 2 metres. The area falls within the major hydrological basin 2, with mean annual runoff ranging from 660 litres per second in February to 7 litres per second in August.

Location

Located approximately 2 kilometres west of Pyrga harbour. Access is via the coastal road of Pyrga through a small bypass. The bathing area is in the Leukosia District, Kato Pyrga Community.

Facilities

No public facilities are available for public service. No waste collection bins are present on the beach. Waste collection responsibility lies with Kato Pyrga Community. Catering and recreation facilities are available at the beach centre.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The bathing area has been included in the monitoring programme since 2008. The Pyrga river body (CY_2-7-1_R1) discharging into the bathing area is in good chemical and ecological status. The coastal body to which the bathing area belongs (CY_1-C1) is in good ecological status. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton development.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Short-term pollution risk is negligible. Potential source of short-term pollution is malfunction of wastewater systems in coastal developments, with estimated frequency of once during the swimming season and duration of 1 to 2 days. No recorded incidents of short-term pollution during swimming seasons 2008 to 2010.
