Kiessee near Rangsdorf is a gravel pit lake located approximately 10 km south of Berlin's city boundary in the Nuthe-Notte Lowland. The lake is fed entirely by groundwater and has no inflows or outflows. It measures 420 m long and 90 m wide with a surface area of 3.3 hectares, a maximum depth of 6 m, and an average depth of 3.5 m. The lake volume is approximately 120,000 m³. The shoreline is steep in many areas with narrow reed belts and willow bushes. Temperature stratification develops during hot summer months despite the relatively modest water depth.
