Klintholm Vest is a 650-meter-long beach located west of Klintholm Harbour on Møn island in south-eastern Denmark, facing Hjelm Bay in the Baltic Sea near Møns Klint. The beach consists of fine sand with scattered small stones and is 10–20 meters wide. Water depth increases gradually offshore, making the area child-friendly. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring during the bathing season.

Water

Brackish water in Hjelm Bay, Baltic Sea. Beach 650 meters long and 10–20 meters wide. Water depth under 2 meters extends approximately 230 meters from the shore. Sea bottom consists of fine sand.

Location

West of Klintholm Harbour on Møn island in south-eastern Denmark, near Møns Klint. Access is via Klintholm Havnevej to a parking area at Klintholm Harbour. Good access from the parking area to the beach.

Facilities

Parking area at Klintholm Harbour. Toilets available at the harbour. Warning signs for degraded bathing water quality. Trash bins. Designated bathing area marked on maps.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Classification is revised annually before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification calculated from routine monitoring samples taken from 2007–2010. Water is tested for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci during the bathing season. The beach meets required quality standards.

Risks

Nyhåndsbæk stream outlet located 100 meters west of the beach carries risk of high fecal bacterial concentrations during certain periods; bathing in the stream outlet is discouraged. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washup at the water edge. Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of chemical pollution. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination possible from boat accidents, manure tanks, or sewer lines.
