Langelinie is a bathing beach located in the southern part of Stege, centrally positioned at Stege Marina overlooking Stege Bay. The beach is 150 meters long and 10–20 meters wide, composed of fine sand with fine sand also characterizing the seabed. A green area with a gravel path provides access for wheelchair users and prams. The beach is classified as having excellent water quality based on faecal indicator bacteria testing.

Water

Brackish water in Stege Bay. Water depth rises gradually, with depth under 2 metres up to 250 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable with no primary direction. The beach is 150 metres long and 10–20 metres wide.

Location

Southern Stege at Stege Marina, Stege Bay. Accessible via Langelinie road to the marina car park. Parking available at the marina.

Warning sign for degraded bathing water quality, parking, rubbish bin, gravel path accessible to wheelchair users and prams.

Season

Monitoring season runs from the start of the bathing season annually. Classification revised each year in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent water quality. Water does not meet microbial threshold values, so periodic health risks may exist when bathing. Classification based on routine samples testing for E. coli and enterococci from 2007–2010. Vordingborg Kommune advised against swimming during the entire 2011 season.

Risks

Nine overflow structures in the surrounding area can discharge sewage into Stege Bay during heavy rain. Three structures north of the beach are primary sources of periodic high bacterial concentrations. Estimated theoretical overflow frequency is 160 times annually per structure. Low risk of cyanobacteria bloom. Low risk of phytoplankton bloom. Low risk of macroalgae accumulation. Low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination possible from accidents involving leisure boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes.
