This bathing water is located in the Calabria region of southern Italy, specifically in the municipality of Santa Caterina dello Jonio in the province of Catanzaro. Coastal water body. Beach area extends 1.665 square kilometers. The seabed composition consists of sand and pebbles with sediment grain size between 0.13 and 2 mm. Average seabed slope from waterline to 5-meter depth is 1.1%.

Location

Santa Caterina dello Jonio, province of Catanzaro, Calabria region, Italy. The bathing water is situated in an area facing agricultural territories north of the town center, at kilometer 148.5 along the provincial road.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The water body is monitored by the Calabria Region, the municipality, the local health authority (ASP), emergency services (118), and the regional environmental protection agency (Arpacal). Wastewater treatment is managed by the S. Caterina dello Jonio Miloti purification plant.

Risks

The Fosso Forcato stream mouth has been identified as a potential pollution source. Short-term pollution events have been documented, including accidental purification plant failures and overflow from the S. Caterina dello Jonio wastewater treatment plant. No cyanobacterial proliferation events have been recorded in the past four years. No macroalgae or phytoplankton proliferation events have been recorded.
